Driver says he 'fainted' before running into Grandville home

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police say the man who drove his car into the side of a Grandville home told them he "fainted" before the collision.

It happened around 7 p.m. Thursday in the 4100 block of Ivanrest Ave. SW.

The owners of the home say they heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion, and pictures fell from their walls.  It also caused a leak of steam from their radiators.

Once the steam cleared, the homeowners saw a car had hit their house.

Police say the driver is a man in his 20s.  He told Grandville officers he fainted while he was driving north on Ivanrest.  The car crossed the median, went over the curb, and went through bushes before hitting the house.

The driver was awake and talking when he was taken away in an ambulance.

The home is still structurally sound, though some bricks were dislodged from the front wall.
