Free Fishing Weekend Coming Up

For the Valentine’s weekend, it’s a free fishing weekend for residents and out of state visitors.

All fishing license fees are waived for two days in Michigan, February 13 & 14 from 6:00am – 10:00pm. This allows fishing enthusiasts to enjoy the chance to catch all types of fish on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters during their respective open season. Just remember that all regulations still apply.

The Kent District Library Service Center invites adults 21 & older to experience a tour and a chance to learn about hops.

Osgood Brewing located at 4051 Chicago Dr. SW in Grandville is hosting this informative tour on Wednesday, February 10 from 6:30pm-7:30pm.   

See a few brands of signature beers produced, along with collecting hops information from Pilot Malt House’s Erik May. Recieve a special on beer tasting with the showing of your library card.

Going on now through March Dekes and Dangles Pond Hockey Tournament

The Dekes & Dangles Pond Hockey Invitational was established in January 2016, and will feature multiple tournaments over the course of the winter months. These tournaments will be 3 vs 3, no goalie, double elimination. Our goal with this event is to make it a winter staple for all those that enjoy hockey, but also enjoy the outdoors. This tournament is played on a 85' x 50' rink, with different brackets playing on specific weekends. The event is held at For the Kidz Gymnastics in Wyoming, Michigan located at 1391 Gezon Parkway, Gezon Pkwy SW, Wyoming, MI 49509.

Available Brackets: A Bracket, B+ Bracket, B Bracket, C Bracket, COED Bracket, Women's Bracket, 30+ Bracket & 40+ Bracket

Uccello's owners to open Grandville pizzeria

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- The local restaurant chain Uccello's is bringing a new concept restaurant to Grandville.

It will be called Herb & Fire, and the owners describe it as an upscale, fast-casual pizzeria.

It's going to be at 44th and Ivanrest, near the Rivertown Crossings Mall.

Owners haven't yet announced an opening date but say they hope it'll be sometime early this summer.

Firefighters put out fire at Grandville hotel

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- Firefighters are working extinguish hot spots at the Days Inn and Suites in Grandville following a fire earlier this morning.

The fire is believed to have started in the boiler room around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to dispatch reports. Police shut down 28th Street near the hotel to connect additional hoses to hydrants.

As of 1 p.m., crews still were working to put out hot spots.


Jenison inventor takes Shefit sports bra to Shark Tank

JENISON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A West Michigan business owner will face off with the sharks next week.

Jenison native Sara Moylan is the owner and inventor of the Shefit bra, a fully adjustable sports bra.

Recently, she was invited to pitch her invention on ABC's Shark Tank.

"To me, it's just crazy that in this day and age, with all these amazing companies on the market, nobody's went back to the drawing board and truly innovated and brought some amazing technology to one of the most important pieces of equipment we as women have, which is a sports bra," said Moylan.

She launched her company about a year ago.

The episode of Shark Tank featuring Moylan will air Friday, January 29, beginning at 9 p.m. on WZZM 13.

One killed in two-vehicle accident in Georgetown Township

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- One woman is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Georgetown Township.

Both directions of 36th Avenue were closed near Port Sheldon in Ottawa County while emergency crews were on scene. 

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. Friday. 

Two people were in the southbound Toyota when the driver, 50-year-old Rebecca Kunst, lost control and swerved into the path of an oncoming Jeep. Two people were also in the Jeep. They were shaken up, but uninjured.
