Summer Programs for Special Needs Kids

The Gary Byker Memorial Library of Hudsonville, located at 3338 Van Buren St., has several events planned this summer for special needs kids and their parents.  Walk-in Story time every Wednesday 11:30—noon through July 20.  Craft/activity programs on the evenings of July 12 and July26th.   Also exclusive library access for special needs kids and their parents from 11am – noon on Tuesdays through July 26th.  

The summer activities will conclude with a community event open to everyone on August 2nd from 6:30 – 7:30pm at Hughes Park.  Come learn some Dutch Dancing steps but stay after for some prizes.

Have you ever been at a carnival or amusement park and marveled at the talent of a caricaturist? Now you can learn this exciting skill! Corey Ruffin, a nationally recognized caricaturist, will be presenting several workshops for teens grades 6-12 this summer at KDL. Learn the basics of cartooning and illustration and the fine art of caricature. Registration is required so sign up  today. Just think of all the fun you could have drawing caricatures of your friends and family!

KDL’s Summer Reading Club wouldn’t be complete without some magic! The entire family is invited to Beyond Magic with Magician Tom Plunkard. This high-impact magic show is loaded with amazing magic, new tricks, and silly stories. Of course, the bunny and birds will also make an appearance. Tom will warm your hearts and stretch your cheek muscles with a spell-binding performance filled with modern music, fun audience participation and loads of humor that can be enjoyed by anyone.

Katie L., our elephant friend, loves to travel the world, and this summer she’d like to take a trip with you! Visit the Grandville Branch and ask for a Katie L. cut-out (hurry, supplies are limited).  Take Katie L. to a destination spot near or far and take a picture of her participating in some exciting summertime fun!
