My Town Grandville: City welcomes first Little Free Library

GRANDVILLE, Mich.—The first Little Free Library in Grandville is up and running.

The house-shaped box is located at Mill Race Park.  The one-shelf library features books for all ages.  Community members are encouraged to take a book, read a book and return a book.  The city expects two additional libraries to be installed in other city parks soon.

Grandville’s Little Free Library was made possible by Home Depot, Friends of the Library and the Grandville Parks Department.

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—Kent District Library is ordering a second round of its popular series for beer lovers.

KD aLe will return Monday, Dec. 8 with a home brewing workshop by Edward Long from Siciliano’s Market.  Long will outline the basics of brewing during his visit to the Sand Lake/Nelson Township branch.  The home brewing workshop schedule is as follows:

HUDSONVILLE, Mich.— Hudsonville will kick off the holiday season downtown with a Christmas tree lighting Dec. 4.

Mayor VanDoeselaar will flip the switch to the tree lights at 6:30 p.m between Keegstra’s Dollar Store, Gemmens Hardware and Family Fare Supermarket. The lighting is part of a holiday celebration that runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  All community members are invited to enjoy free entertainment and activities, including horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, pictures with Santa (bring your own camera) and ornament making.  For more information, visit HudsonvilleTreeLighting.com.

HUDSONVILLE, Mich.— Hudsonville’s Christmas tree will light up the night Dec. 4, kicking off the holiday season downtown.

The Re/Max Grand Valley event runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. between Keegstra’s Dollar Store, Gemmens Hardware and Family Fare Supermarket.  All community members are invited to enjoy the free entertainment and activities, including horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, pictures with Santa (bring your own camera) and ornament making.  At 6:30 p.m., Mayor VanDoeselaar will flip the switch to the tree lights.

My Town: Lake-to-Lake Food Drive kicks off with turkey donation

GRANDVILLE, Mich.—Lake Trust Credit Union will kick off its annual Lake-to-Lake Food Drive this Friday, Nov. 21 with a donation of 400 turkeys by Firekeepers Casino Hotel.

Now through the holiday season, community members are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food donations at any of the credit union’s 21 branches, including locations in Grandville, Holland and Grand Haven. The donations will go toward restocking pantry shelves at local food banks.  In the past two years, the holiday campaign has brought in more than 45,000 pounds of food.

In addition to Firekeepers Casino Hotel, Lake Trust is partnering with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank, Food Gatherers, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and Isabella Community Soup Kitchen and Two Men and a Truck.

ADA, Mich.—Six small businesses that have won over patrons will soon be honored on the big screen.

Celebration Cinema recently announced the winners of its 2015 Celebrated Service Award.  The latest winners include Wolfgang’s Restaurant in Grand Rapids, Sweet Spot Disc Golf in Muskegon and Crow’s Nest restaurant in Portage.  Other honorees include Hair Innovations & Day Spa in Benton Harbor, Golden Harvest in Lansing and Mitchell’s Gourmet Deli & Market in Mount Pleasant.

Celebration Cinema says the public cast 36,400 votes for this year’s finalists.
