Power Outages After Storms Hit Georgetown Area

Following the one two punch of storms Monday morning, Georgetown Township Fire Department was on hand to help mark off downed power lines until Consumers Energy was able to come in and turn off power to the lines.    Here is a reminder if you see downed power lines:

  • Stay clear of downed and sagging wires.
  • Treat all downed wires as if they are energized and keep a safe distance. Also make sure children and pets maintain a safe distance.
  • Immediately report downed wires to Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050 or the local law enforcement agency.
  • Don't attempt to repair or remove limbs from lines.
  • Unplug or turn off all appliances that run continually or operate automatically. This includes your furnace, refrigerator, computer, stove, water heater, TV, VCR and microwave. This can prevent them from being damaged if a voltage surge occurs when power is restored.

Residents on Beechwood Drive in Jenison were thankful that Consumers Energy was able to restore electricity to this neighborhood within a few hours.
