All eyes were on the dissection at Cummings Elementary

Eager and nervous students alike gathered in the Cummings Elementary School gym on Wednesday afternoon to participate in the annual third-grade sheep's eye dissection coordinated by the Grandville Public Schools Science department (aka Miss Priest).  The three third grade classes, under the watchful gaze of numerous parent volunteers, sat at their stations and experienced firsthand the amazing architecture of the eyeball.  Using tweezers, scissors, scalpels (PARENTS ONLY!), and magnifying glasses, they carefully took apart their assigned eyeball and observed and removed things like the optic nerve, cornea, iris, sclera, and retina.

Cummings Family Skating Party held this past Wednesday

On Wednesday night, March 30, students from Cummings Elementary in Standale gathered at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center to enjoy a night of skating.  The children and their families could bring their skates, or for $3.00 could rent either figure or hockey-style skates, and spend time gliding around the surface with friends and fellow classmates.  Food was also provided for the time when legs got tired and that inevitable hunger struck.  A fun, incident free, time was had, and except for the occasional spill, everyone came away from the event with smiles on their faces, a few sore muscles, and maybe a bump or two.  Plus, I for one have not slept as soundly, as I did that night, in quite a while!

KDL Grandville branch presents “Going Green”

How does your garden grow?  Find out at the Going Green program taking place at the KDL Grandville branch this spring. Come share in crafts and activities full of gardening goodness. Kids will learn about the life cycle of plants, how insects and people help the earth, and new ideas for going green. This program is for families with children of all ages.

Bauer Elementary in Hudsonville to Hold Silent Auction and Dinner

Bauer Elementary in Hudsonville will be hosing a silent auction and dinner (tickets were pre-sold for the dinner) Thursday, March 17, 2011. The doors open at 6:30p.m. and final bids are at 8:15p.m.  The event will be held at Park Elementary Community Room, located at 5525 Park Avenue in Hudsonville. There are many items that will be auctioned off including: an authentic Michigan State Basketbal signed by Tom Izzo, an American Girl doll, hand made pottery by Bauer students, ipod shuffle, a night at the Amway Grand Plaza, The Meadows Golf Course, Maple Hill Golf Course and much more.  The evening is a fundraiser for Bauer Elementary's Parent Club.  All the proceeds directly benefit the school.
