HUDSONVILLE, Mich.— Hudsonville will kick off the holiday season downtown with a Christmas tree lighting Dec. 4.

Mayor VanDoeselaar will flip the switch to the tree lights at 6:30 p.m between Keegstra’s Dollar Store, Gemmens Hardware and Family Fare Supermarket. The lighting is part of a holiday celebration that runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  All community members are invited to enjoy free entertainment and activities, including horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, pictures with Santa (bring your own camera) and ornament making.  For more information, visit HudsonvilleTreeLighting.com.

The Re/Max Grand Valley event runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. between Keegstra’s Dollar Store, Gemmens Hardware and Family Fare Supermarket.  All community members are invited to enjoy the free entertainment and activities, including horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, pictures with Santa (bring your own camera) and ornament making.  At 6:30 p.m., Mayor VanDoeselaar will flip the switch to the tree lights.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–  Varnum attorney Adam Brody has been elected to the Michigan Board of Trustees for the Arthritis Foundation. His appointment to the statewide organization follows several years of service to the West Michigan Arthritis Foundation Advisory Board, for which he was recently appointed to a three-year term as chair.

The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. The Foundation is the largest private, not-for-profit contributor to arthritis research in the world, funding more than $380 million in research grants since 1948.

Locally, the Foundation raises funds through such events as its "Tribute to Excellence," "Walk to Cure" and Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis.

JENISON, Mich.—Pet owners in the Grandville area have a new place to shop.

Greg and Tyson Keane recently celebrated the grand opening of Chow Hound Pet Supplies, located at 7485 Cottonwood Drive.  The new store is the eighth location the Keanes have opened in West Michigan.  Tyson Keane is excited to open the store in his hometown.

We grew up in Wyoming and I have lived in Jenison for 18 years. I’m looking forward to providing a convenient location for my neighbors and friends to purchase premium pet food and products, many of which aren’t available in grocery stores,” said Tyson Keane. “We want to help them take great care of their pets and help make the pet-parent experience a positive one.”

The new Chow Hound Pet Supplies features a self-serve dog washing station, as well as pet food and other necessities.

My Town: Volunteers needed for Grand River cleanup on Sept. 21

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The annual Mayor’s Grand River Cleanup takes place Sept. 21.

Volunteers are encouraged to make a difference in their community by taking part in this clean-up effort focusing on sites in Grand Rapids, Grandville, Plainfield Township, Walker and Wyoming.

Registration takes place on Sept. 21 at Sixth Street Park located at 647 Monroe Ave. on the corner of Monroe Avenue and Newberry in downtown Grand Rapids. Arrivals after 9:15 a.m. may not be guaranteed a place on the bus. Buses leave at 9:35 a.m. sharp from the Sixth Street Park.
