Local dentists takes stand against sweets this Halloween

Hudsonville, MI - More and more dentists are getting on board the effort to help save teeth this Halloween. Dr. Bradley Dykstra of Hudsonville Dental Associates is one of several in the area that are offering $1 per pound of unopened candy on November 1st.

Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Candy will be collected at Hudsonville Dental Associates at 3250 Central Blvd. on Monday, November 1 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. for children ages 2-12. The candy will then be shipped to troops overseas.
