Fundraiser to help 9-year-old marrow recipient

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- A young girl we told you about a few months back is making amazing progress in her cancer fight.

Lola DeYoung,9, recently received a bone marrow transplant after a third cancer diagnoses.

A massive bone marrow registration drive recently attracted more than a thousand people to her Grandville church.

Now, she's recovering in Ann Arbor, as we wait to see the effectiveness of her transplant.

"She's a lovely, amazing little girl," said Harbor Life Church Pastor Tanner Smith. "She brings joy to everybody that meets her. She's got a wonderful family. A very important part of our family and the Grandville community."

There is a fundraiser for Lola and her family this Saturday from 9 to 12:30 at Fair Haven Church in Hudsonville. There will be vendors, food, raffles, and auctions. All proceeds to go help the DeYoung family.

And a reminder -- also this Saturday, WZZM 13 is partnering with Grand Valley State University to host a bone marrow registration drive. It will be on the tennis courts at the Allendale campus from 9am until noon. Please consider registering to help save someone's life.
