Missing hiker assumed dead, family plans memorial | News

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) The family of a Hudsonville teen lost in the Montana wilderness is planning a memorial service this Friday.

Jakson Kreiser went hiking alone in the Glacier National Park on July 28th and never returned.  Search crews looked for him for several days but were not able to find him. The family says it assumes he is dead.

Kreiser's family has taken out an obituary. It reads in part, "On a beautiful Montana morning, a rugged 19-year-old young man set off for a day hike to explore the mountains of his new summer home. In this place, Jakson found heaven with an endless view of snow capped mountains, tumbling waterfalls and cool glacial lakes."

Jakson was born on July 16th, 1993. He his survived by his parents, and two brothers.  "Ask anyone who knew him and they would tell you that his best friend was his Dad," the obituary states.  "As parents, we fully embraced the idea of Jakson going to Montana to work for the summer."

Memorial services for Jakson will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at The Pinnacle Center, 3330 Highland Dr., Hudsonville, MI 49426. In Jakson's memory the family asks that all donations be made to: National Park Service, Emergency Services, SAR (Search and Rescue) Donation, P.O. Box 128, West Glacier, MT 59936.
