My Town: Georgetown Township announces plans for new library and community center

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich.—New plans are in the works for the Georgetown Township offices, the township library and Jenison Public Schools.

In a post on its Facebook page Tuesday, the township says it has agreed to sell the township offices and library to the school district so it can expand its early childhood programs.  The buildings are located at 1515 Baldwin Street and 1525 Baldwin Street in Jenison.

The deal hinges on the August 2014 election, during which the township will ask voters to approve a bond to build a new library and senior citizen/community center.  Georgetown Township has reached a deal to purchase the former K-Mart, which it will demolish to build the new facilities.  The new community center and library would open to the public in 2016.

The township plans to host public meeting in the future to detail its plans.
