Local restaurants serve up free meals to veterans November 11

Some West Michigan restaurants are honoring miliatry members  this Veterans Day by serving up free meals.

Lakeshore Partnership is also offering a free meal to veterans at 19 of its local McDonald’s restaurants.  Military identification is preferred, but not required.  Participating locations include:

Kent County honors cleanest restaurants with Food Safety Awards

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—Where are the safest places to eat in Kent County?

The county health department is answering that question with the 2013 Food Safety Awards.   The agency whittled down the list of 1,654 eligible restaurants to just 269 facilities, based on routine restaurant and food service inspections over the past year.  Under the county’s criteria, restaurants that earn the award must have a certified food safety manager, no confirmed violations of the Michigan Smoke Free Law and no confirmed foodborne illness outbreaks during the year.

GRANDVILLE, Mich.— Noodles & Company’s opening act in Grandville will be donating all of its sales on November 1 to the Grandville Education Foundation.

“We believe in what they are working towards and are looking forward to continuing to be involved with this organization and many others in the area,” says Tom Shepard, director of operations for the franchisee in Michigan.

The new restaurant is located on the corner of Rivertown Parkway and Wilson Avenue, across from RiverTown Crossings mall.  It will formally open to the public Saturday, November 2.

Noodles & Company serves made-to-order noodles, salads, sandwiches and appetizers in a casual setting.  The Grandville location will also offer online, carry-out and phone-in ordering at (616) 871-2111.

West Michigan is home to four other Noodles & Company restaurants in Kentwood, Grand Rapids Township, Kalamazoo and Portage.

Osgood Brewing celebrates opening with Stanley and Calder cups

GRANDVILLE, Mich.—A new brewery in Grandville is celebrating its grand opening with the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup.

Osgood Brewing opened its doors to the public Thursday, September 5.  Because of the overwhelming response and the anticipated crowds of cup onlookers, the brewery has extended its hours this weekend; it will be open from 4 p.m.  to 12 a.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. Saturday. 

According to the Osgood Brewing Facebook page, the Stanley Cup is expected to arrive at 4 p.m. Saturday.  The Calder Cup should arrive shortly thereafter.

New business opens near Cabela's

GRANDVILLE, Mich.—Another business along Grandville’s bustling Rivertown corridor is open.

Cookies by Design held its grand opening celebration Wednesday, August 28, a day after opening to the public.  The cookie catering service is located at 3080 44th St. SW, in front of Cabela’s.

Cookies by Design is the third franchise to open in the new strip mall within the past month; Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened August 12 and Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened August 13.
