Hands-On Science at Grandville Public Schools

From: http://www.grandville.k12.mi.us

Labeling arteries, veins and ventricles on a paper handout is one way to study the heart, but dissecting the organ and using your fingers to find the chambers is more appealing to most sixth grade students.

The dissection of pig hearts is just one of the science lab opportunities our elementary students experience as part of their 40-minute, weekly science "special."

"These labs are very unique to Grandville students. The lab specialists and science teachers work together to create a schedule, using Michigan's Grade Level Content  Expectations, to follow throughout the year. This schedule helps the classroom and lab teachers stay near the same topic.

A community task force finalized a long-term facility plan for Grandville Public Schools in June 2008. Several priorities identified in that report refer to improvements for the campus of Grandville High School. At the February 21 Board of Education meeting, board members began deliberation about these site improvements.

The roadway running through the campus is in need of resurfacing, which presents an opportunity to assess the layout of the drive to address safety concerns. When the high  school was constructed in the mid 90's, major shopping centers on either side of the building did not exist. As the surrounding area developed, non-school related traffic on the service road running through our high school campus increased dramatically.

JPS - An Open Letter to Our Community

From: http://www.jpsonline.org

Dear Community,

On behalf of the students, parents, and employees of Jenison Public Schools, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity in approving our Bond Proposal on February 22, 2011. I realize that the passage of this Bond Proposal will result in much personal sacrifice for the taxpayers of our community. Your support of our school district in these tough economic times has delivered a strong message across the state of Michigan that Jenison Public Schools will continue to be a district that pursues excellence in all that we do. The students come first in the Jenison community. The Jenison Pride of which we so often speak is on display for all to see.
