Grandville Middle School Students Create Mats for Haiti

Grandville Middle School Students Create Mats for Haiti

From: http://www.grandville.k12.mi.us

Grandville Middle School students are working to help the children in Haiti by creating mats out of recycled plastic grocery bags. The mats give children in Haiti a clean place to sit or recline rather than on the muddy ground, plywood or cement.

Kimberly Gibson, a middle school parpro, was inspired by a news report featuring Judy Major,a local woman coordinating the mats project. Judy Major came to Grandville Middle School on December 6 to talk to the students in Mrs. Stephan’s and Miss Kuipers’ rooms about the project and to show them how to create the mats. Students were very receptive and eager to participate knowing they will have a huge impact on the children’s lives.

The project ties in with a lesson on natural disasters that the students studied this fall.

Our Kindergarten Round-Up meetings will be held for parents on Tuesday, March 8. The meeting will offer parents information in preparation of your child entering Kindergarten or Pre-Kindergarten in the Fall.

Due to larger turnouts for our evening Round-Up meetings the past few years, we have decided to offer a day time Round-Up meeting in two locations. We encourage parents from other buildings to attend those locations if the day time meetings work best for you. The same information will be given in each location.
